Our new family friendly Elements exhibition marks the 150th anniversary and proclaimed, ‘International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)’.

The Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is a major and well-known achievement in science and underpins chemistry, physics and biology. It was first published by the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869.

The universe is made from them; some are everywhere and others hard to find. They may be found in huge quantities or hardly exist.

Our new exhibition will tell you how the chemical elements were first recognised, how they are different from each other, and why the number of them keeps growing. On display are most of the chemical elements and some objects made from or containing them.
